The Daily Edit: My Tried-and-Tested Routine for a Flawless, All-Day Glow

 Category: Beauty

Staring at a vanity full of products can be overwhelming when you are wondering which combination will actually survive a commute, a coffee run, and an eight-hour workday without sliding off your face. As someone who wears makeup daily, I have done the legwork and the smudge testing for you. I have spent years experimenting with high end splurges and drugstore gems to find the perfect balance between effective skincare and a base that does not budge. Today, I am breaking down my current go to routine from the nighttime nourishment that preps my canvas to the setting spray that keeps it all locked in.

Phase 1: The Cleanse & Refresh

Great makeup starts long before you pick up a foundation brush. If your skin is not prepped, even the most expensive products will sit unevenly. My skincare philosophy is all about removing the day effectively without stripping the skin’s natural barrier.

The Double Cleanse Duo

I swear by the Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter. It is a cult classic for a reason. It melts away stubborn mascara and SPF effortlessly, transforming from a solid balm into a silky oil. Following this up with the Simple Exfoliating Clear Pore Scrub ensures that any lingering debris or dead skin cells are buffed away, leaving a smooth surface for makeup application.

Toning and Treatment

To rebalance my skin’s pH, I go in with the Simple Facial Toner. It is fuss free, alcohol free, and refreshing. However, the real game changer lately has been the Elemis Superfood Midnight Facial. I have recently started incorporating this once a week. Even with limited use, I have noticed my skin looks significantly more awake the next morning. It is like a prebiotic cocktail that feeds your skin while you sleep. This is perfect for those of us who need that extra boost of radiance.

Pro Tip: If you are feeling extra congested, I highly recommend the Garnier Pure Active Salicylic Purifying Gentle Face Cleanser. It has a zingy, fresh feel that really deep cleans the pores without that tight feeling.

Phase 2: Building the Base

When it comes to my daily face, I have a very specific set of requirements. It needs to cover redness, stay matte, and blend seamlessly.

Color Correcting & Priming

I naturally have quite strong red undertones, which can be a nightmare to cover with foundation alone. My secret weapon is the Barry M Fresh Face Colour Correcting Primer (Green). The green pigment neutralizes the redness instantly. On days when I am feeling a bit more flush or have a bigger budget to play with, I reach for Benefit’s The POREfessional. It creates a blurred, velvet smooth canvas that makes pores practically disappear.

The Foundation Debate: Matte vs. Dewy

I will be honest: I see the glass skin and dewy trends on social media and I am envious. I would love to pull off that hydrated, wet look glow, but for my skin type and daily needs, matte has always been my go to.

My current staple is the L’Oreal Paris Cover Liquid Foundation with 4% Niacinamide. This is a powerhouse product. Not only does it provide incredible coverage with a matte finish, but the inclusion of Niacinamide means it is actually working to improve my skin texture while I wear it. It is the perfect compromise between glam and skincare.

Phase 3: Sculpting and Definition

Once the base is down, it is time to add some dimension back into the face so I do not look like a flat canvas.

The e.l.f. Halo Glow Contour Beauty Wand is a standout here. It blends beautifully and allows for precision and a subtle, buildable sculpt. For the eyes, I always go back to the Rimmel Glam’eyes Professional Liquid Eye Liner. The brush is fine enough to allow for a super customizable wing shape, whether I want a subtle flick or a bold, thick graphic line. No routine is complete without Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara. It gives that dramatic, voluminous look that lasts through wind, rain, and everything in between.

Phase 4: The Finishing Touches

The tools you use are just as important as the products themselves. I have found that using Studio London Triangle Puffs for blending provides a much smoother finish than a standard round sponge, especially around the eyes and nose. For the rest of my face, the Real Techniques Expert Face Makeup Brush is my gold standard for buffing in the L’Oreal foundation.

Locking It In

To ensure all that hard work does not disappear by lunchtime, I drench my face in Revolution Sport Fix Fixing Spray. As the name suggests, this stuff is designed to withstand movement and sweat. It is the ultimate insurance policy for your face.

Don’t Forget the Hair

While I am usually a toss it in a messy bun, or give it a quick brush kind of person, when I can be bothered to make an effort with my curls, I use Got2b Glued Hairspray. It provides the best hold I have ever found. If you have spent forty minutes curling your hair, you do not want them dropping the second you step outside, and this spray ensures they stay exactly where you put them.

Finding a routine that works for you is a journey of trial and error. My routine focuses on neutralizing redness and maintaining a clean, matte finish that lasts. Whether you are a makeup minimalist or a full glam enthusiast, the key is finding products that make you feel confident in your own skin.
